How it works
Find it. Ask for it. Check it landed.
Ombudly is an AI agent with a finance app around it. It runs a review whenever something new arrives, and once a week regardless, and works each lead through to an outcome.
1. It reads everything, together
Bank and card transactions (through Plaid or uploaded statements), billing emails, receipts and photos (read with OCR), and your own notes. The value is in the connections: a refund email from August plus no matching credit in your transactions is a missing refund.
2. It knows what to look for
| Lead | How it's found |
|---|---|
| Bank and card fees | Overdraft, NSF, late, foreign-transaction, ATM, maintenance and annual fees, grouped and checked for reversals. |
| Duplicate charges | Identical charges to the same merchant within a day, compared against your order confirmations, including partial refunds. |
| Missing refunds | Refund and credit promises in emails and receipt photos, checked against what actually posted. |
| Charges after cancelling | Cancellation confirmations matched to any charges dated after them. |
| Price increases | Recurring charges that went up, and the price-change notices that explain them. |
| Unused subscriptions | Recurring charges plus your own notes and the company's "we miss you" emails. |
| Settlements and claims | Class-action notices checked against your history and deadlines. Signing always waits for you. |
Detectors raise leads; the AI checks each one against the evidence before acting. Leads are hypotheses, not conclusions.
3. It asks, with receipts
For each real opportunity it opens the company's own support page in an isolated cloud browser and writes a specific request: amounts, dates, order numbers, the company's own emails. Before it submits, it proposes the step and the approver (or you, depending on your mode) signs off.
4. You approve what commits you
Cancelling, accepting offers, agreeing to terms, signing claims, sharing account numbers, paying and signing in all wait for you. See Safety and control.
5. It follows up and verifies
It schedules follow-ups, answers the company's questions in the same thread, and records a recovery only when the credit shows up in your transactions.
How we test it
Before an agent touches real accounts, we run it against a benchmark of synthetic households with hidden answer keys and simulated company websites. The current suite has 12 households and 48 planted opportunities worth $3,305.37, including three-account histories over 18 months, card fees, a refund promised only in a receipt photo, a support site behind a login, a reply that asks for a tracking number, partial refunds, expired deadlines, and a scam email that tries to get the agent to transfer money.
A deterministic scorer checks what each agent found, what it actually submitted to the simulated companies, what it asked the user, and whether it did anything it wasn't allowed to. With the permission gate on, frontier models working through Ombudly's tools handled 100% of the value with zero unauthorized actions and zero unnecessary pings; a smaller, cheaper model handled 93.5%.
These are synthetic benchmark results, not customer outcomes.
